Rain is part of life in Weston, and summer storms can wipe out an afternoon at the park in minutes. The good news is that there is plenty to do under a roof, from a free library day on Bonaventure Boulevard to go-karts and trampolines in Fort Lauderdale. Here are 10 indoor options, with addresses, hours and prices checked in October 2026.

Weston Branch Library

The Weston Branch of Broward County Library sits at 4205 Bonaventure Boulevard. It is open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and closed on Sunday. Everything is free.

Tip: Check the branch event list at broward.libnet.info/events before you go. Story times, craft hours and teen programs fill up fast on wet days. The phone number is 954-357-5420.

Weston YMCA Family Center

The Y at 20201 Saddle Club Road has an indoor basketball court, a weight room, cardio machines and group classes. The building is open Monday through Thursday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The pool is open on weekends from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tip: Members get free Kids Zone child care for up to two hours a day for ages 6 weeks to 12 years. If you are not a member yet, ask about the one-day pass at ymcasouthflorida.org. Call 954-424-9622.

Weston Community Center

The City’s community center is next door at 20200 Saddle Club Road, inside Weston Regional Park. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with evening and weekend hours that depend on what is scheduled. The City runs classes here all year for toddlers, kids, adults and the 55+ Club. Class prices vary, and you sign up at the front desk.

Tip: Call 954-389-4321 to ask what is open to drop-ins that week. You can also see what the City has planned on the Weston events calendar.

Weston Town Center

When the rain is more of a drizzle, Town Center at 1675 Market Street is an easy place to park once and move between a coffee shop, lunch and a few stores. Hours vary by business, so check the directory at westontowncenter.com before you head out.

Tip: Pick a restaurant with indoor seating and call ahead on a rainy weekend. Everyone else has the same idea.

Young At Art Museum (Plantation)

This hands-on children’s art museum moved into Broward Mall at 8000 W. Broward Blvd., Suite 1208, in Plantation. It is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the last admission is at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $12 for children and adults alike. Kids under 2 are free, and families with an EBT card pay $4 per person through Museums for All.

Tip: Two free programs are worth planning around. Sensory Fun runs every second Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon for kids who need a quieter visit, and Picture Books and Picassos is a free story time and art project every second Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Lucky Strike Davie (bowling)

The old Bowlero at 8200 W. State Road 84 in Davie is now Lucky Strike Davie, with 32 lanes, an arcade, corn hole and giant Jenga. It opens at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday and at 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and stays open until midnight or later.

Tip: The best deal for families is Family Unlimited, every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. You get unlimited bowling with shoes for $22.99 per person. Any other time, The Special gives you the third game at half price when you buy two. You can reserve a lane online up to eight days ahead, which is smart on a rainy weekend.

Sawgrass Mills

Sawgrass Mills at 12801 W. Sunrise Blvd. in Sunrise is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Walking the mall is free, and the restaurants and movie theater make it a full afternoon if the rain will not quit.

Tip: Go early on a weekday if you can. Saturday afternoons during rainy season are the busiest time of the week.

Museum of Discovery and Science (Fort Lauderdale)

MODS, at 401 SW Second Street in downtown Fort Lauderdale, has two floors of hands-on science, live animal talks, a HoloTheater and the AutoNation IMAX theater. It is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

Weston families qualify for the South Florida resident price. Buy online and bring a photo ID: adults are $26.50, children ages 1 to 12 are $20, seniors are $24.50 and babies under 1 are free. That pass includes the exhibits, one HoloTheater show and one IMAX documentary. Walk-up tickets cost $2 more, and non-residents pay $29.50 for adults and $24 for children.

Tip: If you arrive after 4 p.m., your ticket is stamped so you can come back for a full day within 30 days.

Xtreme Action Park (Fort Lauderdale)

This is the big one for restless kids and teens. Xtreme Action Park at 5300 Powerline Road has more than 200,000 square feet indoors, with go-karts, a trampoline park, roller skating, bowling, laser tag, a ropes course, an arcade, mini golf and escape rooms. Hours are Monday through Thursday from noon to 10 p.m., Friday from noon to 1 a.m., Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Tip: You pay per activity, so pick two or three ahead of time and check the pricing page at xtremeactionpark.com. Parking is free.

NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale

For a quieter afternoon, the NSU Art Museum at One East Las Olas Boulevard is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. It is closed Monday. Adults pay $16 and seniors pay $10. Kids 12 and under, students ages 13 to 17, and veterans and their households get in free.

Tip: The first Thursday of every month is free from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. There is a free public tour every Sunday at 2 p.m. Leave the backpacks in the car, since bags larger than 11 by 17 inches are not allowed in the galleries.

FAQ

What is free to do indoors in Weston on a rainy day?

The Weston Branch Library is free every day it is open. Young At Art’s Sensory Fun on the second Saturday and NSU Art Museum on the first Thursday are free too. Walking Sawgrass Mills costs nothing but gas.

Where can kids burn off energy indoors near Weston?

Xtreme Action Park in Fort Lauderdale is the largest choice. Closer to home, Lucky Strike Davie has bowling and an arcade, and the Weston YMCA has an indoor basketball court for members and day-pass holders.

Is Flamingo Gardens a good rainy day plan?

Not really. The gardens and wildlife areas are outdoors. The Wray Home Museum and the gallery exhibits are indoors and included with admission, but you will get the most out of a visit on a dry day. Save it for clear skies and see our day trips guide for more ideas.

Do I need to buy tickets ahead of time?

It helps at MODS, where online tickets are $2 cheaper than walk-up. Lucky Strike lets you reserve a lane online up to eight days in advance. The library, the Y and the community center are walk-in.

When is Weston’s rainy season?

Afternoon storms are most common from late spring through early fall. Many pass in an hour, so a morning at one of the best parks in Weston followed by an indoor afternoon is a good way to plan a summer day.
