Saturday is the big day this weekend. Two free City of Weston events open and close the day at Weston Regional Park, with a garden morning in Davie and a pirate party at Flamingo Gardens in between. Sunday adds a Halloween art day for kids.
Pirates Weekend at Flamingo Gardens
Saturday and Sunday, October 10 and 11, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Flamingo Gardens, 3750 S. Flamingo Road, Davie
This is the pirate week of the Harvest Festival Weekends, with live pirate shows all day. Hayrides, pony rides, farm animals and the new mini Highland cows are free with admission, and the costume contest and candy giveaway start at 1 p.m. Tickets are $24 for ages 12 and up, $17 for ages 3 to 11, and free for kids 2 and under. The pumpkin patch costs extra, so bring a little cash.
Mayors’ Chess Challenge
Saturday, October 10, 10 a.m. to noon
Weston Community Center, 20200 Saddle Club Road, Weston
Sit down for a game with Mayor Margaret Brown, city commissioners and neighbors. It is free, beginners are welcome, and instructors will be there to teach anyone who is new to the game.
Gardens Matter Day and Free Tree Giveaway
Saturday, October 10, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Robbins Preserve, 4005 Hiatus Road, Davie
The Town of Davie hosts a free morning of garden workshops, vendor booths and planter kit giveaways. No sign-up is needed for the garden day. The free tree pickup at 11 a.m. is for Davie residents who registered ahead of time, so Weston folks should come for the tips and skip the tree line.
Moonlight Movie in the Park: Zootopia 2
Saturday, October 10, 8 to 9:45 p.m.
Weston Regional Park, 20200 Saddle Club Road, Weston
Bring a blanket or a lawn chair and watch Zootopia 2 under the stars. The movie is free. Bug spray is a good idea this time of year.
YAAlloween at Young At Art Museum
Sunday, October 11, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Young At Art Museum, 8000 W. Broward Blvd., Suite 1208 (inside Broward Mall), Plantation
Kids can wear costumes and make Halloween crafts all day, with treats and a “Spooky Serenade” by Cadenza Music from noon to 1:30 p.m. Everything is included with admission, which is $12 per person and free for children under 2.
