Weston has three free city events on the calendar for October, and all of them are easy to bring the kids to.
Mayors’ Chess Challenge
Saturday, October 10, 10 a.m. to noon
Weston Community Center, 20200 Saddle Club Road
Play chess with Mayor Margaret Brown, the Weston City Commission and your neighbors. Beginners are welcome. Instructors will be there to teach anyone who is new to the game.
Moonlight Movie in the Park: Zootopia 2
Saturday, October 10, 8 to 9:45 p.m.
Weston Regional Park, 20200 Saddle Club Road
That same night, head back to the park for a free outdoor movie. Zootopia 2 follows a brave rabbit cop and her animal friends. Bring a blanket or a chair. The next movie night is Toy Story 5 on November 7.
Chalk in the Park
Saturday, October 17, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Library Park, 4255 Bonaventure Blvd.
Grab a square of sidewalk and draw. This year’s theme is “Postcards from Weston,” part of the city’s 30th birthday. Check-in opens at 10:15 a.m., and designs must be done by 1 p.m. Chalk is provided, and squares go first come, first served. A DJ plays music and prizes are given in several categories. The Arts Council of Greater Weston helps put it on. For the story of how the city got to 30, read Weston Turns 30, Told by the Man Who Was There for All of It.
For questions about any of these events, call the Weston Community Center at 954-389-4321 or email [email protected].
