You loaded the dog in the car, drove to the park, and then found the sign that says no pets. The City of Weston just made that easier to avoid.
Weston has published a new map called Paws in the Parks. It shows which city parks welcome dogs and which ones do not, all in one place. You can open it on your phone before you leave the house or print it and keep it in the car.
The good news for dog owners: most Weston parks welcome leashed dogs. With over 245 acres of park land in the city, that gives you and your dog plenty of room to walk, sniff and play.
The rules are simple
Dogs must stay on a leash no longer than six feet. Owners need to pick up after their pets so the next family can enjoy a clean park. That is about it.
The map is on the city’s Parks and Recreation page, along with addresses and amenities for every Weston park.
A few other things worth knowing before you go
Weston’s three big athletic parks, Tequesta Trace Park, Vista Park and Weston Regional Park, all have a ThorGuard lightning prediction system. When the system senses a lightning risk it sounds one long horn blast, which means everyone should get to shelter. Three short blasts mean it is safe to come back out. Indian Trace Park has a strobe light version with no sound.
The city has also put Bike FixIt repair stations in parks around town, so a flat or a loose chain does not have to end your morning.
One park to skip for now: Windmill Ranch Park is closed to the public while construction improvements are underway.
