Two of the high schools Weston families count on made the new U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools list, and one of them landed near the top of the state.

Cypress Bay High School ranks 55th in Florida and 810th in the country for 2026/27. That puts it in the top 4.51 percent of every ranked high school in the United States, and it makes Cypress Bay one of only four Broward County schools in the national top 5 percent.

Western High School ranks 209th in Florida and 3,303rd nationally, which places it in the top 18.41 percent.

Sixteen Broward County Public Schools high schools made the list in all, landing the district in the top 26 percent nationally. U.S. News looked at nearly 27,000 public high schools and ranked about 18,000 of them.

The rankings are not a popularity contest. Schools are scored on college readiness, how broad their college-level course offerings are, how students perform on state assessments, and graduation rates.

“We’re proud to have our schools ranked among the best in the country. This achievement is something our entire community can celebrate,” said Dr. Howard Hepburn, superintendent of Broward County Public Schools. “These rankings reflect the dedication of our students, the passion of our educators and the support of our families. Most importantly, they show that our students are gaining the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to succeed in college, careers and life.”

Broward County Public Schools is the sixth largest district in the country and the second largest in Florida, with more than 236,600 students across 233 schools, centers and technical colleges, plus 82 charter schools.

Weston has a voice in how those buildings get taken care of. On Aug. 6, School Board Member Adam Cervera appointed Mayor Margaret Brown to represent District 6 on the district’s Facilities Task Force Committee for the 2026-2027 school year. Her term runs through June 30, 2027.

If you have a student at Cypress Bay or Western, this is a good week to tell a teacher thank you.
