What began as a third grader’s desire to help other girls feel less alone has grown into a nearly decade-long passion for South Florida high school student Liv Heurich.
Liv started Girls in the Sunshine in third grade after experiencing her own struggles with confidence and sometimes feeling invisible. She found that getting involved in her community and helping others made her feel more connected and confident. She wanted to help other girls discover that same feeling.
Her idea quickly became something much bigger. By fifth grade, Liv was testifying before the Maryland State Senate about Girls in the Sunshine. Rather than leaving the childhood project behind, she continued to grow it alongside her.
Today, Liv is a high school junior living in South Florida and the author of Girls in the Sunshine, now available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The book encourages young people struggling with anxiety, isolation or low self-esteem to find confidence and connection through community involvement.
Liv is now bringing that message to readers across Florida, beginning with upcoming book signings at Barnes & Noble locations in Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens. Signing dates and details will be shared on the Girls in the Sunshine Instagram page.
Liv says she hopes the book can reach girls well beyond her own community who may be feeling the way she once did. “If even one girl feels a little less alone and a little more confident because of Girls in the Sunshine, then it’s doing what I always hoped it would do.”
