Mayor’s Chess Challenge in Cooper City

Players of all ages have been sharpening their moves all summer with the Cooper City Chess Club, and this friendly challenge closes out the season. It is free. For details, call Cooper City Parks and Recreation at 954-434-4300, ext. 3.

Saturday, August 29 | 1 to 4 p.m. | Weston Branch Library, 4205 Bonaventure Blvd., Weston
Casual chess for ages 5 to 18 runs from 1 to 2:30 p.m., then LEGO free building for ages 5 to 10 from 3 to 4 p.m. Both are free to attend.
Throw Don’t Go: The Legacy of Aden Perry
Sunday, August 30 | 5 p.m. | Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker, 707 NE 8th St., Fort Lauderdale
A preview screening of the documentary about Aden Perry, the 17-year-old who gave his life trying to save a stranger and was awarded the Carnegie Hero Award. His foundation’s “Throw, Don’t Go” water safety movement has placed hundreds of life rings across South Florida.
