One of Weston’s best kept secrets is about to become one of its favorite places to play.
Windmill Ranch Park, located next to Everglades Elementary School at 2900 Bonaventure Boulevard, is in the middle of a complete makeover. For years, many residents did not even realize the property was a city park, because it had no parking area of its own and could only be reached through school property. That is changing, with direct access and parking coming right off Bonaventure Boulevard.
The new design was shaped with public input, and the City says construction is now taking shape. When the gates open, the park will include a multipurpose open play field and event lawn, an accessible playground with a shade canopy, a sand court for beach volleyball and beach tennis, a multicourt for basketball and pickleball, a Bankshot family basketball area, exercise equipment, a shaded picnic area, a walking path with a soft poured surface, landscaping, restrooms, and parking.
The City calls the project its most dramatic before and after to date, with amenities for residents of all ages. Completion is anticipated in early fall. The park remains closed to the public during construction, so mark your calendar and get ready to explore it soon.
