Have you ever wondered what Weston looks like from the Mayor’s chair? On Monday, October 26, you can find out.

The City of Weston invites residents of all ages to City Hall to sit in the Mayor’s seat in the Commission Chamber and meet Mayor Margaret Brown. City staff will take a photo of you or your family with the Mayor on the Commission dais. Bring your phone or camera, and you go home with a fun keepsake.

The city calls it “Mayor for a Moment.” It is part of the city’s celebration of Florida City Government Week.

The details

  • When: Monday, October 26, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
  • Where: Weston City Hall, 17200 Royal Palm Blvd.
  • Cost: Free
  • Sign up: No appointment needed

The visit is quick, and everyone is welcome. “Just bring your best mayoral smile!” the city says.

It is a sweet way to show kids the room where Weston’s leaders meet and talk about our city. Grandparents, neighbors and new residents are welcome too. Learn more on the City of Weston website.

Heads up, drivers: Royal Palm ramp closes Thursday night

If you drive home on I-75 South, plan ahead this Thursday, October 22. At 8 p.m., the I-75 southbound exit ramp to westbound Royal Palm Boulevard will close. It opens again at 5 a.m. Friday.

During the closure, drivers will be sent to westbound Griffin Road, then north on Weston Road, then west on Royal Palm Boulevard. Signs will guide the way, and the Florida Highway Patrol will help with traffic. If the work cannot be done Thursday, the backup night is Thursday, October 29.

Crews are putting in a mast arm as part of the Florida Department of Transportation’s I-75 at Royal Palm Blvd. Interchange Improvements Project. The project will add a lane to I-75 and make the Royal Palm and Griffin Road ramps bigger to help traffic flow. It also adds new lighting and Wrong-Way Driver Detection Systems. Questions about the project can go to Community Outreach Specialist Trisha Rangil at 754-283-2929. Read the city’s detour notice.
