Two charity 5Ks next month will put Weston runners and walkers to work for the animals that share our corner of Broward. They fall on back to back mornings, and both are a short drive east of town.
Where the Wild Things Run 5K
Saturday, November 7, 8:30 a.m. to noon
NSU Davie Campus, 3050 Ray Ferrero Jr. Blvd., Davie
The South Florida Wildlife Center is holding its very first 5K. The center rescues and cares for native animals in need, then releases them back to the wild.
“For more than 70 years, South Florida Wildlife Center has cared for native wildlife in need,” the center says.
The race is part of a bigger goal. The center wants a South Florida where people and wildlife can live side by side. It also wants to use what it learns from thousands of animal cases to help protect the places we all share.
You do not have to be a runner to help. The center says you can run, walk, volunteer, sponsor or cheer from the sidelines. Learn more on the South Florida Wildlife Center website or the Weston events calendar.
5th Annual 5K Walk in the Wild
Sunday, November 8, 7 to 10:30 a.m.
Flamingo Gardens, 3750 S. Flamingo Road, Davie
The next morning, you can walk or run a 5K through Flamingo Gardens. The 60 acre botanical garden and wildlife sanctuary sits just east of Weston. It is a fun morning for families, and the money raised supports Flamingo Gardens.
