Business leaders from across South Broward filled the room on August 26 for the 5th Annual Eggs & Issues Legislative Breakfast, hosted by the Miramar Pembroke Pines Regional Chamber. Weston was well represented, with Vice Mayor Henry Mead and Commissioner Byron Jaffe joining State Representative Robin Bartleman and State Senator Dr. Barbara Sharief, along with officials from every other municipality in the Chamber’s footprint and the Broward County Commission.
The format kept things candid. Rather than prepared remarks, officials fielded questions on the issues members told us mattered most going into the event, insurance reform, workforce development, infrastructure, and economic growth among them. Members left with a clearer sense of where their local and state representatives stand, and a few new contacts to follow up with directly.
“Advocacy is one of the most valuable things a chamber can offer its members, and events like Eggs & Issues put that into practice. When business owners can sit across the table from the officials making decisions that affect their bottom line, that’s how real change happens for the businesses we represent,” said Patty Archer, Executive Director of the Miramar Pembroke Pines and Weston chambers. “Our job isn’t just to bring business owners together at networking events. It’s to make sure their voice reaches the people who write the policies affecting them.”
A sincere thank you to this year’s sponsors, whose support made the breakfast possible: WestCare/The Village South, FPL, Waste Pro, City of Pembroke Pines, Broward Realtors, and Memorial Healthcare System.
Attendees also had the opportunity to weigh in on what comes next. A short survey went out following the event asking members to rank the legislative issues most critical to their business, feedback that will directly shape the Chamber’s advocacy priorities heading into the new year.
Eggs & Issues will return in 2027 for its 6th installment. Weston businesses interested in getting more involved in the Chamber’s legislative advocacy work are invited to attend an event and join our Government & Legislative Affairs Committee.
