DR. IBIS BRITO: SURVIVING STAGE 4 CANCER TO HEAL MINDS
From Stage 4 Cancer to Mental Health Specialist: Dr. Ibis Brito’s Journey of Healing and Purpose
“Everything we do outside of us is just a reflection of what is inside.”
“Forgive everybody – but first, forgive yourself.”
What does it take to stare death in the face – not once, but multiple times – and choose to come back stronger, more purposeful, and more alive than ever? For Dr. Ibis Brito, a licensed mental health specialist practicing in Weston, Florida, that question isn’t hypothetical. It’s her story.
Twelve years ago, Dr. Brito was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma. She went through intense chemotherapy while continuing to work, only to discover that the treatment had damaged her heart – leaving her with an ejection fraction so low that doctors told her she was essentially walking on borrowed time. A defibrillator was implanted. Surgeries followed. And through it all, she kept going.
What carried her through wasn’t just medical treatment – it was mindset. Forgiveness. Faith. And a decision to focus on others even in the depths of her own suffering.
Today, Dr. Brito channels every one of those experiences into her work with clients – primarily women – helping them heal from the inside out through therapy, meditation, retreats, and inner child work. In this conversation with host Alejandro Larrazabal, she shares why forgiveness is the foundation of everything, how meditation can help overwhelmed business owners make clearer decisions, and what the butterfly she wears every day truly represents.
This is a story about transformation, resilience, and the power of choosing purpose over pain – right here in South Florida.
