Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida (GSSEF) has given its 2026 Lifetime Service Award to Lorna Brown-Burton, a Coral Springs resident who has supported the Girl Scout movement for 30 years.

“Lorna has strengthened and guided our council and committees for three decades,” said Lisa Johnson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida. “She’s a Lifetime Girl Scout who is kind, generous, helpful and totally dedicated to our Movement.”

Brown-Burton’s Girl Scout story started in childhood. She grew up in Jamaica, where she was a Girl Guide, the Girl Scout equivalent in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth countries.

She is a respected workers’ compensation attorney. Over the years she has used her legal skill to review the council’s bylaws and gift-acceptance policies. She also helped with long-range property planning and the council’s 2008 realignment. She served on the GSSEF Board of Directors for five years, then led as Board Chair from 2013 to 2019. She has stayed an active supporter of council programs ever since.

Brown-Burton lives in Coral Springs with her husband. She serves on The Florida Bar Board of Governors from the 17th Circuit.

GSSEF started the Lifetime Service Award in 2014. It honors people who have made extraordinary contributions to the Girl Scout mission through steady, far-reaching volunteer work.

Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida serves more than 6,900 girls ages 5 to 17 across Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, and Okeechobee counties. To volunteer or partner with the group, call 561-427-0177 or visit http://www.gssef.org.
