THE CITY OF WESTON IS MAKING IT EASIER FOR MORE RESIDENTS TO IMPROVE THEIR HOMES AND ACHIEVE HOMEOWNERSHIP THROUGH HOUSING ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS NOW AVAILABLE TO ELIGIBLE HOUSEHOLDS.
In partnership with the Broward County Housing and Urban Planning Division, Weston offers Minor Home Repair and Barrier Free/Special Needs Programs for income-eligible Weston homeowners. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-qualified basis. The pre-application period has been extended to June 30, 2026.
The programs can help fund important home improvements and safety upgrades, including:
1. Roof repair and/or replacement; complete repair/replacement of deteriorated roofing system
2. Window replacement with impact windows
3. Exterior doors replaced with impact-resistant doors
4. Insulation installation
5. HVAC/air conditioning replacement or upgrades and insulation
6. Connect to sanitary sewer/septic tank closure
These assistance programs are provided as interest-free loans with no monthly payments required. Homeowners who continue living in the home for 10-years will have the loan forgiven.
Weston also offers a Homebuyer Purchase Assistance Program designed to help eligible buyers purchase a home in Weston. Qualified applicants may receive up to $120,000 in assistance, based on financial need.
To qualify, buyers must:
• Be able to obtain a mortgage loan that meets County guidelines.
• Not have owned a residential property in the prior three years
• Must use the purchased home as a primary residence
• Must contribute at least 3% of the purchase price (2% may be from a gift), among other requirements
Like the home repair program, this assistance is offered as a 0% interest loan. If the buyer owns, occupies, and maintains the home for 15 years, the loan is forgiven.
These are GREAT programs. The income eligibility levels for these programs were recently raised, allowing more households the opportunity to qualify for assistance.
